About the D-3KAT

The Digital Armature Surge Tester with Bar-to-Bar Test is a cost-effective solution for testing small to large DC traction motors, ideally suited for railway applications.
It includes a Bar-to-Bar Test for detecting low impedance faults in series-wound armatures and field coils of DC traction motors.
An embedded industrial PC with 8-inch touchscreen display and software allows storage, recall, and printing of test reports.

Test Positions

Position I: Stator & Field Coil Testing (Dual Channel)

  • For DC traction motors

  • Tests field & pole coils

  • 3-phase test select switch for complete stator testing

Position II: Bar-to-Bar Test (Single Channel)

  • Armature mounted between centers and rotated

  • Adjustable brushes contact 3 positions

  • Compares two armature segments bar-to-bar

  • Balanced segments show uniform pattern; faults show waveform variation

  • Detects high resistance carbon shorts, often missed by low-voltage tests
