The RIF-9

The RIF-9 Digital Impulse Reflectometer is a battery-powered time-domain reflectometer (TDR) designed for precise fault location in both communication and power cables. It allows fast and accurate determination of fault distance, cable length measurement, and discontinuity detection, even in long cable lines. Integrated memory and PC software support enable convenient storage, analysis, and reporting of measurement results.

When integrated into a cable test van or ETL fault locator system, the RIF-9 can locate faults across cable lengths up to 100 km, covering all fault types without requiring preliminary sheath burning.

Key Features

  • Fault location in symmetric and asymmetric cables using TDR (time-domain reflection)

  • Measurement of cable length or distance to faults and short circuits

  • Storage and processing of test results internally or via supplied PC software

  • Effective in cable lines up to 100 km for all fault types without preliminary sheath burning

  • Battery powered, portable design for field use

Application

The RIF-9 is used for:

  • Determining the distance to faults or discontinuities in power and communication cables

  • Measuring cable length (including those wound on drums)

  • Accurate pre-location of cable faults when used as part of ETL-series fault locating systems or integrated into a cable test van

  • Providing fast, reliable fault diagnostics without destructive pre-burning procedures
